Originally from New Zealand, Alex completed her veterinary degree at Massey University in 2016. After this, she moved to the United States to pursue specialty training in internal medicine, and went on to complete an internship at the University of Minnesota and residency at Colorado State University. Ultimately, becoming a diplomate of the American College of Internal Medicine for Large Animal Internal Medicine in 2021 and attaining a her Masters degree.
After this, Alex moved to Ireland and undertook a PhD in clinical genomics with University College Dublin, focusing on the influence of the early life environment on Thoroughbred horse’s stress response and disease risk. During this time, she worked extensively with horses in the Thoroughbred race industry.
In 2024, Alex joined the University of Nottingham, where she is now a Clinical Assistant Professor in Equine Internal Medicine, contributing to teaching across the veterinary programme. She spends her time split between teaching on the university campus and seeing clinical cases at Pool House Equine Hospital, working in each location on alternate weeks.
